General Race Information:
Races alternate Saturday/Sunday (i.e. Race #1 is Sat, Race #2 is Sun, etc).
For Saturday races, the course pre-ride is Friday afternoon; for Sunday race, course pre-ride is Saturday afternoon. Coach Feeney will excuse riders for Friday pre-rides.
Athletes must race in the current team jersey (FHS 2023 jersey or newer).
Volunteering at the races is expected/needed of all families; look for the SignUpGenius emails that come out a week in advance of the race. Also, the League strongly encourages race volunteering and have designated each team a race to rally volunteer support (including riders); for this season, we have been designated Race #2-Steamboat.
At Race #1, the freshman boys and girls will be racing an ITT- “Individual Time Trial”, which will designate what category they will race for the season.
Because we are a club sport, the MTB team is a little different from other high school sports in that athletes travel independently; most families drive the athletes to the races and volunteer at the races.
Generally, a one night hotel/camping stay is required. Camping is available at all race venues. Some families camp, while others prefer to stay in hotels or VRBOs. Reservations should be secured well ahead of the season. Reach out to other parents for recommendations.
Varsity Letter Requirements
A Varsity Letter is an award earned for excellence in school activities after meeting the following criteria.
Freshman & Sophomore Athletes
Athlete qualifies for and races in the state championships and places on the podium in any league race. Earning a varsity letter as a freshman or sophomore is challenging, and only a small percentage of the team qualify each year.
Junior Varsity & Varsity Athletes
Athlete qualifies for and races in the state championships.
